Gallivantin' with Gough - February, 2007
Wellsir, amazingly enough here we are starting another
new year. 2006 got off to a slow start here at the
"Rancho Notso Grande" but we finished the year with lots
of activities. We took our old friends Herb Remington
and Johnny Gimble to Altus, Oklahoma to play a couple of
shows in May. Had Playboy fiddler Curly Lewis on the
band and the talented Ginny Mac as a guest star. Gail
and Jim Jr. rounded out the band. The Oklahoma folks
weathered the rain and cold and still filled the parking
lot outside of Fox Lumber Company to catch the big show.
My band, The Cosmopolitan
Cowboys played some dances at Sun City in Georgetown and
The Gail Gough Group played for two of my Austin High
School reunions during the year.
As last year was an election
year for many races, I was picked to do commercials for
several candidates. Luckily, a couple of them got
elected! Business really picked up in late Summer, as I
was cast as a "Rodeo Announcer" in the TV series,
"Wildfire". I spent three days in Albuquerque working on
the episode called, "Heartless". Look for it to play in
the Spring on the ABC Family Channel. The movie I did
with Ed Bruce a couple years back, "Mi Amigo", was
finally released on DVD a few weeks back and is
available at Hollywood Video stores nationwide.
I continued to work for
Blackstone Audio and narrated several Louis L'Amour
novels that can be found at
Barnes and
Noble stores. We'll probably do more of these this
year. All my titles can be found at
Blackstone Audio.
As the oil business has made a
significant comeback, my old friends Media Strategy
Group of Colorado Springs picked me as their spokesman
for Key Energy Services of Houston and we've been doing
radio spots for that account on a regular basis.
I was pleased to be "peddling
iron" after a long layoff. An old friend in the radio
business in Kerrville lined me up with an ad agency in
San Antonio and I produced a Western Swing jingle and am
writing and producing spots for Bandera Chevrolet each
month here in my studio.
More good news! I was selected
to be the spokesman for "Golden Chick" restaurants in
October and the TV spots are playing here in Austin and
other markets in Texas as well.
As most of you know, I produced
a series of radio shows, "Rhythm Roundup" in Houston in
the '80's and I'm pleased to report they can be heard
again on demand on the internet at
twangtownusa.com.
We're looking forward to
another great year...I hope you have the best ever!
Adios for now,
