Gallivantin' with Gough - January, 2005

As we're entering a new year, let's recap our many activities in 2004. The year got off to a big start as Jim was picked as spokesman for The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. He made many trips to the "Alamo City" recording radio and TV spots. His radio series for the rodeo won a local "Addy" award.

As 2004 was an election year for several local and regional races, Jim did many spots for candidates in Texas and the surrounding states.

Springtime came and with it the opening of the big "Gilley's Dance Hall" in Dallas. Jim was hired as the broadcast spokesman and voiced considerable spots to promote the new club.

One of Jim's regional PSA television commercials for an anti-auto-theft campaign in Texas won a 2004 "Telly" award. Jim played "Sheriff Will Ketchum".

2004 saw Jim narrating many more great "Western" audiobooks for Otis Audio of Oklahoma City and Blackstone Audiobooks of Ashland, Oregon. Among recent "books" Jim completed Matt Braun's "Noble Outlaw", "El Paso", Ralph Crompton's "Abilene Trail" and the classic Zane Grey story, "Call of the Canyon". These and many others are available on this website.

Musically, Jim's band played some exciting venues and he assisted wife Gail with forming the Gail Gough Trio. With Gail's unique piano, Jim on bass guitar and Jim Jr. on drums, the trio had a ball playing in the Austin and Houston area in 2004.

To continue his research in the Great American West, Jim and Gail traveled through the Southwestern Desert all the way to the Pacific Ocean in the fall. One high-point of the trip was camping in the Davis Mountain State Park of West Texas. Jim is currently "reading" the Zane Grey novel, "Rustlers of Pecos Country" and he visited that remote area as well as another classic Texas town, Langtry. Since Jim has narrated the story of the illustrious Judge Roy Bean many times, it was very meaningful to see the old "Jersey Lilly Saloon" once again.

2004 ended with Jim's band opening for the big Dave Alexander Band at the annual Cowboy Christmas Ball in Round Rock, Texas. The band featured the great Bert Rivera on steel guitar, Gail Gough on keyboard, Ray Tesmer on guitar, Jim on vocals and bass and Jim Jr. on the drums. We had a big and enthusiastic crowd and look forward to this event each year.

Watch this website for information about Jim's upcoming CD, "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys".
