Gallivantin' with Gough - March 8, 2008
It’s hard to realize, but we’re already into a brand new
year! 2007 was an interesting year around the “Rancho
Notso Grande”. We had serious flooding here in the Hill
Country and sustained lots of damage to the siding on
our house. We had intended to take the camper and head
for New Mexico last Summer, but the repairs to the house
changed those plans.
It was a good year for our radio and TV work. I
completed my first year as TV spokesman for “Golden
Chick” restaurants in Central Texas. I did radio all
year for
Bandera Chevrolet as well. When Summer rolled
around, I was called to Houston to do several on-camera
TV spots for
Holmes Smokehouse Pecan Smoked Sausage.
This was great, as I had been personal friends with the
Holmes family of Peak, Texas in the years we lived in
Fort Bend County. I used to do lots of radio spots for
the account when I was on the air at KFRD. The spots
played on Houston TV all the way to the end of the year
and they were even seen in the Super Bowl last month as
well.
I had the honor once again of being MC for the “Up
the Chisholm Trail” event in Georgetown last
September. The Cosmopolitan Cowboys played for the event
too. Then in December, the old Williamson County
courthouse was completely restored and a re-dedication
ceremony was held for the public. I had the pleasure of
being the MC for this event as well.
We had a couple of mini-vacation trips. Went to Houston
to visit the Grandkids and took the camper to East Texas
for the
Syrup Festival in Henderson. Gail has many relatives
there and we had a big time visiting them.
It was a red-letter year for Gail as she finally
finished her Williams Family History Book. Had it
printed and bound and sold a bunch of ‘em to her
relatives.
The Holiday season had The Gail Gough Trio busy
entertaining at several of Austin’s Retirement Homes. We
played our fourth New Years’ Dance at
Westminister Manor.
The Cosmopolitan Cowboys are playing at the
Bob Bullock Texas History Museum in March and have
some more nice dates booked for the year.
I just received a letter from the
Cowtown Western Music Society saying I would be
inducted in their Hall of Fame in May. If that wasn’t
enough, I heard I’m going into the Texas Western Swing
Hall of Fame in May as well and in August I’m to be
inducted into the
Seattle WS Society HOF, so I’m indeed humbled.
I’m heading to Los Angeles soon to narrate a ‘western’
audiobook for
Mad Hatter Studios. They heard some of my ‘books’ by
Matt
Braun and said I was the ‘Best’. It’s shaping up to
be another great year. We continue to be truly blessed.
‘Til next time…Happy Trails to you and yours...
