Gallivantin' with Gough - May, 2005
Folks, Spring is here and the Hill Country is more
beautiful than ever! The wildflowers, especially
bluebonnets are in bloom all over the countryside. I
never mow Spring weeds ‘til all the wildflowers are
gone. It’s truly the greatest time to be in the greatest
state!
‘Ol Jim keeps busy. My Star of Texas TV spot
aired again in Austin during rodeo time. I was picked as
the “message on hold” voice of the fantastic
Gaylord Resort Hotel near Dallas and have cut many
nice spots for that venue. We may be heard around the
country pitching the hotel during the Summer months.
After a long lay-off, I decided it was time to revive my
old, syndicated radio show., “Today in Texas”.
I’m proud to relate that the series will air on a couple
of Marble Falls, Texas stations beginning in April.
KBAY-92.5 and KHLB-104.9. These Texas history
vignettes have played successfully around the Lone Star
State for years.
I had the opportunity to write and produce a little
radio jingle some time ago pitching RV’s for a
Georgetown RV dealer. (We bought our camper there a few
years ago.) It was fun playing and singing on it.
Reminded me of so many jingles I had written over the
years while operating the ad agency in Houston. I just
recently recorded another jingle for “Smokey
Mo’s” barbeque restaurants in Austin. My friends in
Austin tell me they’ve enjoyed hearing these on the
Austin stations.
The “world famous” Cosmopolitan Cowboys have played a
couple of nice gigs. I’m always proud to be in the
company of great musicians like Bert Rivera and Ray
Tesmer. As Jim Jr. puts it... “They are world-class
players, Dad.” We are planning on getting back to
completing my CD, “My Heroes have Always been Cowboys”
very soon. We’ll be at the
Evangeline Cafe on Brodie Lane in Austin on Friday
May, 27.
The Gail Gough Trio has some upcoming bookings as well.
She’s having knee replacement surgery in early May. Keep
her in your prayers. Gail has tongue-lashed me for not
putting some of my movie roles on this new site, so here
are few I’ll bet you could find on late night TV. At
least, I think they are still playing on cable....
Urban Cowboy
Places in the Heart
JFK
Outlaw Blues
Eddie Macon’s Run
Eight Seconds
Liar’s Moon
The Newton Boys
We’re still hopeful our latest, “Mi Amigo” will
eventually turn up on the small screen. One of the other
actors, Josh Holloway, has a feature role on the hit TV
series, “Lost.”
Enough for now... Stay tuned!
